For additional improvement, we recommend skin peel treatments with the glycolic and lactic at concentrations between 20 and 70 percent.
Glycolic acid, a natural substance derived from sugar cane, is particularly useful in rejuvenating sun-damaged skin. Discovered in the 1970s, glycolic acid has been widely used in recent years to give skin a smoother, younger, fresher look. Also, it can help control mild acne, fine lines, brown marks, solar keratoses and improve skin discolouration associated with acne.
Glycolic acid penetrates the upper layers of the skin to detach them by destroying their connection with the rest of the tissue. The procedure takes between 15 and 30 minutes, and 4 to 6 treatments are usually necessary to achieve the desired effects. Most patients tolerate the treatment well and report only slight stinging and temporary redness as the side effects. Not all glycolic acid preparations are the same, and our physicians have carefully selected ingredients that optimise treatment and produce consistently superb results.
Lactic acid is a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) derived from milk commonly used to comabt photo-ageing effects like wrinkles, uneven skin tone, roughness and mottled pigmentation. Lactic acid causes the cells of the epidermis to become ‘unglued’ allowing the dead skin cells to slough off, stimulating regrowth of new skin and possibly even the production of collagen and elastin. Cleopatra is reported to have bathed in sour milk (lactic acid) to improve her complexion!
Glycolic and Lactic acid is one of the most important elements in choosing effective skin treatments for our patients. Dr Adel Soliman and La Sante MediSpa dermal aesthetiticians have years of experience with glycolic / lactic acid and are uniquely qualified to help you make the most of your skin using this very effective treatment.
